One of my sisters influenced me to be active and take up sports when I was much younger. She brought me with her on runs at Macritchie Reservoir, signed me up for Karate training. In school, I was involved in track and field and cross country, as well as played some hockey. That gave me the foundation to maintain an active lifestyle.
I had a short stint with the military before leaving to join the outdoor education industry. Both jobs require that I maintained a certain level of physical fitness. 2015 was the year that “life happened” and I became a lot more sedentary, indulged in unhealthy dietary habits and gained weight. It was significant enough to wake up my idea and made me take action to try and reverse that.
In early 2016, I took my Fundamentals course at CrossFit Enduro. I had my first glimpse of what CrossFit is – “Constantly varied, high-intensity functional movement”. It raised my awareness about how exercise is just one aspect of holistic health and wellness. Nutrition is another core piece to it. As I continued training with CrossFit Enduro, the workouts, the skills I learned, and nutrition challenges I went through fuelled my desire to learn more about the methodology. Over the years, I completed a few CrossFit training programmes, and am still continuing to expand my knowledge base.
Now, I feel like I am in a better shape than when I was younger. I am grateful to the CrossFit Enduro community for the support to help me grow as an athlete and as a person. I hope to be able to give back to this community in any way I can.
