Alrighty folks, here it is – CROSSFIT 2012 PALEO CHALLENGE!
Get on the Paleo wagon and see for yourself what all the hype is about. Expect to feel great, get stronger, lose weight, look better naked, increase energy, and sleep like a baby.
This is not only a body composition challenge but a way to better health and a longer happier life. Expect weight loss, fat loss, lean muscle gain, performance improvement (CrossFit and sports), energy increase (may be a roller coaster start for some), mental clarity, craving control, and better sleep.
WHO
The entire Enduro and CFSG community!
WHAT
A one month Paleo Challenge meant as a collective kick start into healthy nutrition and recovery habits. For those new to the Paleo lifestyle, it’s an opportunity to delve deep into it with other first timers. And ‘cos it’s Crossfit – it’s nothing if it’s not measured! So, to benchmark your progress, there will be the following…
Before & after photos (clothes on, thank you!)
Weight before & after (whether you use this as a measure of success will depend on your individual goal)
Performance on a benchmark WOD before & after the challenge (the first WOD must be completed at the box on 01 November – speak to Juria if you can’t make it)
WHERE
Right where you are. We’ll be hosting a big potluck in the gym a few weeks into the challenge to test your new Paleo recipes. The key is consistent practice every day – at work, at home, and when eating out.
WHEN
Thursday 01 November to Friday 30 November
WHY
To look, feel, and perform better! (and glory and fame… and prizes) Wait, did you say prizes? Yes. As if better health and performance and a smokin’ hot body ain’t good enough, there will be prizes (yes, and glory and fame) for the following categories…
1. GRASS-FED GOD/GODDESS – Most Weight Lost
2. STRONGER THAN BULL – Biggest performance improvement in the benchmark WOD
3. LIVIN LA VIDA PALEO-OH– Best & Fairest, most consistent, biggest lifestyle change
Mandatory for the Challenge
Consume no grains or gluten products. This means bread, pasta, tortillas (sniff), beer (sniff, sniff), pastries, cookies, cake… check labels for wheat/gluten.
Consume no refined sugars. This means candy, chocolate, soda, palm sugar, coconut sugar, agave, etc… and no artificial sweeteners
Take your daily fish oil (we like Nordic Naturals fish oil)
Optional (may hinder success)
Consider your dairy intake (depending on your body composition goals and tolerance to lactose)
Consider your alcohol intake. Beers contain gluten, except for a few. However, the refining process of liquors leaves the gluten out, plus tequila is kinda paleo…? Use your judgment
Coffee. Yeah, I don’t want to know what you act like without your morning cup either, but consider cutting down, especially if you’re sensitive to it and/or sleep and hormonal recovery are large parts of your challenge.
Optional (may help success)
Sleep 7-9 hours a night on a regular schedule. Even laying down and waking up at consistent times can be huge.
Spend 10 minutes a day with a foam roller or a lacrosse ball or some other tools working o.
myo-fascial release and mobility.
Drink a non-caloric beverage at every meal and upon rising and going to bed. (This means water, herbal tea, or seltzer. No, not diet coke, sorry.
